STCU’s indirect lending program allows anyone to join the credit union and obtain an STCU loan for a car, truck, or RV right at the dealership. It started in 2000, with 10 dealers and has grown to over 75. Our indirect lending portfolio is over $625 million, and the program accounts for 33% of new STCU members.
Based on feedback, we know that in the excitement of making their purchase, some of these borrowers aren’t aware which financial institution provided their loan, and some thought it was financed through the dealership itself. Prior to October 2016, new indirect members received a welcome letter from STCU containing details of their new loan. It arrived in a standard 9 in. x 4 in. envelope without any special markings. The initial scope of this project involved revamping the presentation of “welcome” materials to new members who finance their auto or RV loan indirectly at a dealership. These members have no prior relationship with STCU.
